HIL-based simulations allow students and engineers to visualize safely the effects caused by several disturbances on electrical systems, as well as to validate power system protection schemes in real-time. Moreover, HIL-based relay testing is a powerful tool to assess equipment performance before deployment. Therefore, this course will tackle the modeling, simulation, and testing of protective devices such as overcurrent relays, distance, and differential protection, including practical examples.
